Hustling Harder Won’t Get You What You Want...

Don’t forget to play...

I’ve seen an exponential increase in the popularity of ‘hustle culture’ in today’s era.

Where it’s all about grind, grind, grind.

Get up at 4:00am, run 10 miles, work 15 hours a day, and f*ck your feelings.

You want to know what this does?

It gives you a pseudo-high of constant progression while simultaneously robbing you of ever feeling truly content and at peace.

Because, after all, if you’re not working, you’re wasting time. Right?

Wrong.

So many of us have completely forgotten about the aspect of play in our lives.

The aspect of doing something for absolutely no other reason than the joy of doing it.

Remember being a kid and running out in the rain with your clothes on? Or rolling in the mud? Or spinning in circles till you were so dizzy that you couldn’t even stand up? Or making faces at yourself in the mirror?

These days we call all that ‘pointless’, and ‘silly’, and ‘childish’.

Well, we call it childish because we’ve been trained out of it for decades now.

We used to play. We used to have fun. We used to enjoy the moment exactly as it was.

And now, we take vacations because it’s “good for us.” All the while feeling like we’re wasting time.

Or we go and take a quick break or power nap because we ‘ought’ to.

What happened to playing? What happened to just enjoying the moment right where we are?

Trust me, goals are important. Ambition is important. Direction is critical.

But all of that is empty and nullified if it isn’t counterbalanced with pure, spontaneous, meaningless enjoyment: FUN.

So if you read this, take this as a signal to take a break. Relax. Forget about the hustle for a little while and return to your childlike, playful nature.

In my opinion, this is what FUELS our dreams and motivation even further.

Constant hustle just drains you mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Remember to play. Remember to have fun.

Much love, Devon G.
